Mike Conner,
I love my Nikon Coolpix (I have a 950) and this line is rated best
for compatibility with Macs by ZDnet and MacHome & MacWorld, etc. I
haven't had need of a remote cable; have a PC card adaptor for the G3
laptop and an image card reader for the G4 (USB connection). What I
got was a kit that included the adaptor/download cable as part of the
deal, then bought the other items as I could afford them. I'm sure
they are doing package deals for the 990, too. I have the power
adaptor cable in case I want to do studio work (the main reason for
this is to save on the batteries--but I got rechargeables with
charger) though I've done artifact photos using a copy stand setup
and just hand-held the camera and gotten splendid results. I keep an
eye on MacMall and Outpost.com for good deals and jump in when there
are good sales or rebates. Of course if budgetary concerns don't
figure into it, that's great and more power to you!
