Kevin Sutton mentioned that Brahms had a "comforting effect". I am a
pianist and have only grown to love Brahms' piano works in the last few
years. With regards to "comforting music to play: I would suggest
Intermezzi op 117 no: 1 and 3 and op. 118 no: 2 (A major)

Comforting music for listening is: Brahms Piano concerto no: 1 in d
minor. There are some wonderful piano solos in the first movement.

many thanks from
Philippa
