Walter Meyer <[log in to unmask]> asked about Gliere's Concerto for
Coloratura Soprano:

>Does anybody else reading this know the work?

Yes, here (in France) it is one of those pieces we relatively often hear on
radio broadcasts (at 3am) and almost never live. A lovely work. As we are
discussing vocal concerti, there is one by Andre Jolivet (a great concerto
specialist -- however a thread on concerto specialists? I heard that Bruno
Bjelinski was one, for instance). The Ukrainian composer Igor Shamo wrote
a flute concerto which somehow reminds me of Gliere's coloratura concerto.
There is also a very charming concertino for flute, women's choir and
chamber orchestra by John Fernstrom, whose 6th symphony was recently
released by BIS.

Best regards,

Thanh-Tam Le
