Godowsky's studies might be technically more difficult, but are they
as intellectually and musically challenging as the Hammerklavier? Also,
isn't it possible that Kinton was commenting in regards to the standard
repertoire, which the Godowsky studies are clearly not a part? After all,
he does use the term "masterpiece" and, therefore, does not refer to the
piano literature as a whole.
