Robert Peters asks:
>There is this famous Nietzsche quotation: "Without music life would be
>a mistake / misunderstanding." (Ohne Musik ware das Leben ein Irrtum.)
>Does anyone know when and where he said this and what the context is?
The quotation comes from his "Goetzenen-Daemmerung" aphorism number 33.
For the non-German readers amongst us might note the similarity in the
title to "Goetterdaemmerung".
Wie wenig gehoert zum Gluecke! Der Ton eines Dudelsacks.
- Ohne Musik waere das Leben ein Irrtum. Der Deutsche denkt sich
selbst Gott liedersingend.
"The German", adds Nietzsche, "imagines God himself as a singer of songs
[lidersingend]".
