I'll be embarking on a review of the Shostakovich String Quartet recordings
and would like some feedback.
The complete sets I have or soon might are:
Manhattan on ESSAY - Shostakovich on Olympia - Emerson on DG -
Fitzwilliam on Decca - Eder on Naxos - Borodin on BMG/Milodiya -
Brodsky on Teldec
Are there any I have missed? Is the set from the Manhattan String Quartet
a worthy acquisition?
Concerning smaller packages:
Yggdrasil on BIS(1 disc) - Rubio on Globe(1 disc) - Berlin Phil. on
Thorofon(1 disc) - Manhattan on Centaur(2 discs) - Debussy on Arion with 2
discs - Kreutzer on IMP/Carlton(1 disc) - Schidlof on Linn with 1 disc - 4
historic discs on Le Chant - 3 discs on Hyperion - 3 on Chandos - 2 from the
Borodin on Virgin - 1 from the Cavani on Azica -
1 from the Taneyev on ECMG(?)
Have I left anything out? I think the Borodin had more than 2 for Virgin,
but the two I have don't sound as good as the Borodin/BMG.
Thanks for your time and feedback in advance.
