Over 30 years ago the comedian John Bird was the guest on the BBC's Desert
Island Discs - which allows you 8 "gramophone records", one book (the Bible
and a complete Shakespeare are, happily, already on the island) and one
luxury.

I particularly recall one of Bird's choices being Stockhausen's
Kontrapunkte, chosen, he said, precisely because he *didn't* understand
the music.
