A week or so ago Heinz Kern <[log in to unmask]> asked:

Last night I attended part of "Musicfest 2001", the summer festival of
the Minnesota Orchestra. The first item on the program (of chamber music
by American composers) was:
Daniel Sturm -- _The Deathless Music of the Circling Stars_ (1983)
"I can hardly wait...here comes Halley!"
Algol...the Demon Star (Medusa)
Perseus and Andromeda
Ride, Ride, Forever Peregrin (Pioneer 10)
Scored for harp, flute, and bassoon; performed by members of the Minnesota
Orchestra. The composer was present and spoke briefly about the work.
The remainder of the program:
Elliot Carter -- Woodwind Quintet
George Crumb -- _Vox balaenae (Voice of the Whale) for Three
Masked Players_, for Electric Flute, Electric
Cello, and Electric Piano
Vocalise (..for the beginning of time)
Variations on Sea-Time
Archeozoic [var. I] + Proterozoic [Var. II]
Paleozoic [var. III] + Mesozoic [var. IV]
Cenozoic [var. V]
Sea-Nocturne (..for the end of time)
Lou Harrison -- Concerto for Violin and Percussion
John Harbison -- Quintet for Winds
The Crumb piece drew the warmest audience reaction; I liked both that
and the Harrison concerto (I enjoy watching and hearing percussionists).
