Just came across some surprising information in connection with "Dead
Man Walking." press. Among the "establishment" companies, I have always
regarded the San Francisco Opera as one of the most forward looking -- and
the fact it has presented two dozen U.S. premieres supports that view. On
the other hand, in the eighth decade of its existence, the company gave
only seven world premieres!

Before DMW, they were:

Dello Joio, "Blood Moon," 1961
Imbrie, "Angle of Repose," 1976
Harbison, "A Winter's Tale," 1979
Mechem, "Tartuffe," 1982
Susa, "The Dangerous Liaisons," 1994
Previn, "A Streetcar Named Desire," 1998

And that's all she wrote...:(
