Cras, Jean (Emile Paul) (Brest, 1879 - Brest, 1932)
Fr. composer.
Served in Fr. navy, becoming rear- admiral. Began to comp. when a child
and had lessons from his close friend Duparc. His opera Polypheme won City
of Paris Prize in 1921, and was prod. at Opera-Comique 1922. Also comp.
Ames d'enfants, orch. (1918); L'offrande lyrique, v. and orch. (1920);
Journal de Bord, sym. suite (1927); Legende, vc., orch. (1929); pf.
conc. (1931); songs, and chamber works.
