Dear Classical Music Lovers --

This quest goes back to the years just prior to and, possibly shortly
after World War II.

Out in the Pacific a closest friend's parents must have subscribed to a
music record club. This much I do recall:

1> The recordings were of the very highest technical quality.

2> Curiously, the labels did not include any indication of the recording
company or artists. I came to suspect that the 78s might have come from
Telefunken for: a> they had the sharp clarity of that recording company's
discs; and b> given the hostility that surrounded Germany in those years,
the distributor might well have thought it wise to exclude the recording
source.

3> The labels were midnight blue with gold lettering and the logo showed
an elegant long fingered hand holding a baton.

4> One set was the "Ein Kleine Nacht Musik." I believe but am not entirely
sure that another set from that source was the Schubert "Trout Quintet,"
both ideal for kids just starting out with good music.

Might someone be able to enlighten me? I have wondered about those
classical 78s for 52 years.

With the best of regards,

Whitney H. Gordon, Ph.D.
