Not a single iffy recommendation here so far, IMO. Let's add Paul Jacobs
[Nonesuch] and Claudio Arrau [Philips] to the list; among historical
recordings, Marcelle Meyer's is worth attention [EMI].
Perhaps someone, somewhere, and soon will transfer to CD the Prelude
recordings of E. Robert Schmitz. That might not seem a promising name for
a Debussy interpreter, but then, neither is Gieseking's. Someone here might
suggest this to historical piano specialist Allan Evans at Arbiter Records;
I can't, because all he takes at my suggestions is umbrage.
