Steve, far be it from me to disagree, but here is a quote from my programme
(still have it) from the 1966 Bernstein/LSO performance of the 8th:
The German words are printed below as they are sung: Mahler omitted
and tranpsoed certain lines of Goethe's texts. Opposite are printed
the equivalent passages from the late Louis MacNiece's translation
of Goethe's drama, which was broadcast in honour of Goethe's bicentenary
in 1949.
Maybe LN's translation of part II was never published?
