Oh no not this old canard again! They also go overboard for a great
number of non-English musicians.
Barbirolli and Beecham were *very* important conductors. Barbirolli
succeeded Toscanini and the NYPO for instance and gave a number of
important premieres (incl. Vaughan Williams' 8th which is dedicated
to "Glorious John").
With Beecham (and indeed Barbirolli) where would Delius' reputation be
today?
Gardiner, OTOH, I don't think much of.

No I really don't believe this is true.
