Andrea posted a very heartfelt message on being done helping mothers who've
made poor choices feel less guilty about it.
I understand that reaction too!
But I think that enhancing women's self-esteem, including a recognition of
their ability to make a better choice another time, may increase the chances
of a subsequent baby getting breastfed. In particular, I think it may
increase those chances more than would a response which communicated,
however subtly, that the BF supporter judged the mother and found her
wanting. And to accomplish this, I think we may have to help women at least
put a name on their guilt.
If you need to, afterwards (and we all will at times), go rant to a
colleague, but then and there, with the mother who's trying your patience,
Think Of The Greater Good.
