One of the "official" books about saints is Butler's LIVES OF THE SAINTS.
It can usually be found in the reference section of college and university
libraries. Another place to check it the CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA.

What about St. Christopher? He was demoted, yet I thought he was also a
historical figure.
