Andrys Basten:

As many of us do. And Juozas Rimas Jr. did suggest he himself liked:

>Some Sinatra, Streisand, maybe some Beatles...

For me, that's pop ;-) Perhaps there is a vocabulary image problem - and
perhaps it's mine??... The problem may also extend to the difference
not always made between 'like' and 'love'... One 'loves' so easily...

>What is your opinion on this matter?

I should imagine Glenn Dicterow does not to listen exclusively to what
he terms "pop and soft rock" as he was speaking only of what he listens
to (in addition to his Kreisler record) on his way to and from work:

>I don't often listen to classical music to and from work -- basically, I
>need a rest from that.

He also needs the common ground with his son - don't we all who have one?...

Juozas:

>The content, emotion, complexity of classical music leave pop absolutely
>bland.

Yes, if one must compare, they do for me also, but one can find other joys
in such music, which may then move far beyond blandness.

>Juozas Rimas Jr (not the one playing)

There is certainly joy here... A friend had me listen to a recording (n/a)
of Balakauskas's Concerto for Oboe, Harpsichord and Strings - Juozas Rimas
Sr: oboe - great sound:-)

The Concerto is now available on BIS - not the same version, unfortunately,
but still, of course, the finely constructed, elegant, well-balanced work
I first heard, full of vital energy and beauty of line, nordic shimmerings
from the strings...
