PRESS RELEASE
The distinguished American violist Jerry Horner will be guest artist
with Mallorca's Serafino Trio in a concert at the Deia International Music
Festival on Saturday 12 May at 2030h. The performance of music by Mozart,
Brahms and Rebecca Clarke will be given at Son Marroig. The concert will
be repeated on Saturday 19 May at 2100h at the Oratori de San Miquel in
Campanet.
For the past 20 years, Horner has performed worldwide with one of America's
most well-known chamber groups, the Fine Arts Quartet. Prior to that, he
was the violist of several other noted American string quartets as well as
principal violist of the Pittsburgh and Dallas symphonies. As a soloist
and chamber musician he has performed more than 500 concerts in the major
musical centers of the United States, Europe and the Far East. He was also
professor of viola and chamber music at the University of Wisconsen in
Milwaukee.
He recently retired from the Fine Arts Quartet to devote himself to
teaching viola and chamber music and giving guest performances and
master classes, and travelling. Horner became interested in the
Serafino Trio after hearing their recordings on their internet website
(www.mp3.com/serafinotrio) and through email correspondence with the
Serafino's cellist, David Runnion. In February he spent two weeks in Deia
rehearsing with the trio at Son Marroig and returned to Mallorca last week
for further rehearsals.
Featured on the program will be Mozart's Piano Quartet in E-flat and
Johannes Brahms' Piano Quartet in A Major. The Serafino will also play
a trio by British composer Rebecca Clarke.
The Son Marroig concert will be the Serafino's sixth performance at the
Deia festival. Since their debut two years ago in Cala Millor they have
performed frequently throughout Mallorca as well as in Menorca and on the
Spanish Peninsula. Members of the trio, besides cellist Runnion, are
violinist Jennifer Peck and pianist Suzanne Bradbury.
Although all share American roots, they now reside year-round in Mallorca,
where Peck, formerly a member of the Madrid Symphony, now plays with the
Balearic Symphony. Runnion formerly was principal cellist in the Barcelona
Symphony and now teaches and performes frequently in chamber ensembles here
and on the Peninsula. Bradbury, who has lived in Deia since the age of
four, has given numerous solo concerts in Europe and the United States.
