I am listening to Quasthoff's rendering of the cycle now.  The scope and
sheer size of his voice, as well as his emphasis on the longer vowels give
it an operatic and luminous quality.  It seems to me the kind of voice that
would inspire some one like Liszt to cloth such music in orchestral terms.
