The Hanover Band was formed in 1990 by Caroline Brown ('cello). It is
the resident orchestra of The Old Market, Hove, East Sussex.
Roy Goodman was the principal conductor between 1986-1994. Guest
conductors have included Sir Charles Mackerras, Nicholas McGegan, Andrew
Manze, and Anthony Halstead.
When Goodman was the principal conductor, the Band recorded several
classical works by Nimbus (e.g., the complete Beethoven and Schubert
symphonies). The Band had a short exclusive recording contract with RCA
Victor Red Seal. It has also recorded for Cala, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi,
and Sony Classical. For Hyperion, they recorded several volumes of the
ill-fated "complete" Haydn symphony cycle.
Under the direction of Anthony Halstead, the Hanover Band is currently
recording all of Johann Christian Bach's concerti, symphonies, and
overtures for CPO. Most recently, it has recorded for ASV.
