Not too long ago, I asked for help with programming suggestions for
choral works to go with my Lovelife Dances (Chorus SATB, Piano 4 Hands).
One of several good suggestions came from Steve Schwartz who contributes to
this list (thank you again, Steve). That suggestion was Robert Schumann's
Spanisches Liederspiel, Opus 74. It is a nine-song cycle for various
voicings (SA, TB, ST, S, T, and SATB) with piano accompaniment. And, now
having finally read through it carefully, I can say that it is a perfect
foil to the Lovelife Dances (even offers a catchy title in English,
"Lovelife Dances and Spanish Romances").
The music, of course, is public domain, and the copy I found was printed in
1925 and is now falling apart. I am thinking of re-engraving the music and
publishing a new performing edition, perhaps with a critical or analytical
essay, through my small company, The Hartenshield Group
(www.hartenshield.com).
Is there an editor on this list with good choral credentials and possible
interest in such a project?
