According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as quoted in a book
published this year (The Landscaping Revolution, by Andy Wasowski), 21
million homeowners are annually applying over 25 million pounds of herbicides
and 30 million pounds of pesticides to their residential lawns and gardens,
and doing the applications themselves. The combined amount of pesticides used
annually by untrained homeowners and professional applicators comes to 67
million pounds.
