That is not true in the opera world: I've heard singers booed, and
conductors - and of course productions frequently these days get soundly
booed, often deservedly. That is one of the pleasures of going to the
opera: the audience is often very volatile, whereas the symphonic audience
tends to just sit there as though attending a ritual.
