Of the two Rubinstein Nocturnes sets, I prefer the flair of the earlier
1930s set, on EMI, rather than the later 1960s set on RCA -- although it
is stately and grand.
John Bell Young brought my attention to the Wasowski performance of
the Nocturnes, on Concord, and they are powerful. Wasowski works from
a somewhat darker sensibility than Rubinstein, but from note 1 his
performance conveys powerful meaning. (Likewise, another Russian pianist
JBY recommended, for the Barcarolle: Vladimir Tropp, on Denon. Two or
three notes, and he is "talking to you" as I like to put it -- you don't
hear notes you hear meaning.)
