Timings, close to the minute, appear just before the catalogue numbers
of these works, as noted above. List members may know that Mravinsky is
seen in Volume II of The Art of Conducting (Warner-Teldec). Several of
his Soviet television performances also appear on Japanese and Italian
LDs, most of the latter being over-priced pirates. These documents are
irreplaceable evidence of the way this extraordinary conductor actually
worked. Those of us accustomed to Western wallowing in (say) Shostakovich
5 will be quite surprised by Mravinsky's work in this repertoire.
