Steve Schwartz has probably started a vigorous debate about the relative
merits of everyone's favourite conductors. Szell is certainly one of
mine and I have been delighted to have bought a number of his reissued
recordings that I missed the first time.
But I wonder why a small country like Hungary should have
disproportionately produced Szell, Solti, Fricsay, Reiner, Ormandy, Dorati,
who have I forgotten? A bit of research might produce something but does
someone know?
