Martek, the makers of Neuromins, has done research on DHA levels in the
breast milk of women around the world. Women in the US do have much lowers
levels than women in Europe and South America, because we have diets that
are low in foods containing DHA. That doesn't necessarily mean that
pregnant and lactating women need to take DHA supplements -- I'm not sure
anyone knows yet what "normal" levels are, or what "optimal" levels are. I
believe the WHO web page has some info about this topic, plus there are
research articles published about the levels of DHA in the breast milk of
women from different countries.
Not plugging DHA, just saying that no in sure if the low levels of DHA found
in the milk of US mothers is sufficient, or not.
