I believe much of the land in the Symphony Hall and Northeastern University
area is reclaimed.  That is, if you go back far enough, you'd be in Boston
Harbor.  (There is a section of Boston that is not now wet, called the Back
Bay.  It once was.) So I imagine it was very expensive property.
