I agree completely with what Ray says here. Pronunciation (is that
pro-noun-ci-a-shun or pro- nunce-ci-a-shun?) is largely unimportant. In
other words, who cares. I've lived with Tchaikovsky's name mis-prounced
all my life, doesn't change anything.
Let's just celebrate the man, not how his name "should" be pronounced.
I've heard radio announcers (and others) go to great lengths to get the
glutteral 'accchhhkk!" sound in 'Bach' but completely Anglicize the
'Sebastian' pronunciation. It's largely an affectation on the part of
many.
