Good timing! Tureck's set was in my mailbox when I got home along with
the violin and harpsichord works from Andrew Manze. I decided to start
with Tureck and have listened to the first disc so far. I'm very pleased
- she's highly distinctive and I'm confident that it's a special recording.
The recorded sound is the only problem. There's quite a bit of hiss, and
some of the higher notes are problematic. But, after making some
adjustments, I was able to forget about the sound situation and concentrate
fully on the performances.
The set is on Deutsche Grammophon and the catalog number is 463 305-2.
I bought it for about $44 plus shipping from CDNOW; I've seen it in stores
for $50 plus sales tax. Those kind of prices don't bother me with a
historical release from Tureck, but those persons unfamiliar with her Bach
performances should sample first.
