If I recall correctly, the Library of Virginia  does have its manufacture
and agriculture "censuses" dating to the ca. 1815-1820s and 1840s
respectively. I do remember that the former often appeared in the form of
journal-like entries, with the names and wages of the hired workers, the
amount of materials used or purchased, how months out of the year were
they in operation, etc. Hope this helps.
