Have you read Kolata's or Crosby's books on the 1918 influenza pandemic? Seriously, if the WWI medical waste landfill is in Texas, the heat and humidity would have taken care of flu virus a long time ago. However, I'm not sure that anaerobic organisms such as anthrax would have dissipated.

Anyone have cautionary tales or recommendations regarding a medical waste
landfill from WW I?  Site must be tested for plumes / other HTRW, will be
left in place, and is being examined in order to certify closure.
