Dutch East India Company was one of the crowning glories of the early
mercantile world - 1600s especially, when the East Indies [largely
modern Indonesia] produced high value trade goods. If it wasn't
completely defunct by 1898 it may have resorted to selling pickles.

But...Dutch East Indies Company used the initials VOC. Examples of
their handiwork are found in 17th century Dutch shipwrecks on the
Western Australian coast. VOC stamped on anything and everything.

You may have to search for a more parochial origin for your gherkins.

Hello All

i am looking for any information on a light green pickle jar..it is
imbossed as the East India Pickle Co. my research so far includes the
English Co. and the
Dutch Co by the same name...excavated intact from a fire pit from the
year of 1898..(site usage limited to that year)..as far as i can tell
the English Co founded by
Queen Elizabeth the 1st in 1600 but was long gone by 1898..i could find
no further infomation on the Dutch Co. any leads would be Appreceiated.

    Thanks
