Another interesting new release on the Naxos label is "London Calling"
(8.554488; with the Royal Artillery Band/Maj.Geoffrey Kingston... &
promisingly subtitled "Music for Wind Band, vol.1"). A fun disc, well
performed & produced; but there are curious elements: a number of the
works included are better known via their orchestral versions (The Three
Elizabeths, the most notable eg); but no arrangers are credited here. Was
the man who wrote tunes in the habit of self producing parallel versions of
his popular scores?; or are these pieces/or the orchestral versions not
completely echt Coates?

All the best,
