In this series of United States composers (not at all the same as
"American," btw) I'd strongly recommend the Piston (8.559003). He's very
much at the head of the class, and this CD is proof. Two delicious Violin
Concertos; plus. Most rewarding.

I've liked the Antheil Symphonies fine (8.559033), but was not as impressed
as others on this List by Creston's. A matter of tastes, I guess: I like
the neo-classical wing of 20th century music, hence the Antheil; I found
Creston's musical shapes not as finely chiseled out.

But the Piston is a must; he's a fabulous US composer.
