My initial impressions were just the opposite and haven't changed
significantly. There are many great recordings of the Schumann:
Perahia/Abbado on Sony, Perahia/Davis on Sony, Richter/Rowicki on DG,
Brendel/Sanderling on Philips, Moravec/Mata on Dorian, Van Cliburn/Reiner
on RCA, Staier/Herreweghe on Harmonia Mundi (period instruments), and
Bolet/Dutoit on Decca. I'm sure there are others that don't come to mind
right now. My favorite is the Bolet, but it might be out of print; his
last movement is sensational.
