Red River Wreck Field School
Fort Towson, Oklahoma

The deadline has been extended for applications by certified divers for the Red
River Wreck 2001 Field School. A few positions remain open for divers and will
be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be received by

The Red River Wreck is a single-engine sidewheeler that appears to be the
earliest Western Rivers steamboat ever studied by archaeologists. Much of the
wreckage, which lay buried and preserved under an Oklahoma pasture until the
river shifted, is now visible at low water. Portions of the hull, steam engine,
and the paddle wheel can be seen at or near the surface during summer low
water.
