Well, I turned up a good one on one of my colonial archaeology exams.
In response to the question "Is there any evidence to support
historian Christine Heyrman's characterization of the early New
England & Canadian Maritime fishing communities as part of a
"disorderly subculture," I got the following:

" Archaeological evidence may show that wine, women, etc. were not
allowed abord the actuall fishing boats, but it also my show that
"Tickeling houses" awaited the marry sailors return."

(spelling innovations to be credited to the student)

Tickle me timbers! Nothing like a good tickle-fest after a hard day
at the cod lines!

M.
