5th National Conference on Battlefield Protection
Baltimore, Maryland - December 2-6, 2000

Call for Papers/Workshop Proposals
*Submission Deadline: May 12, 2000

The National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program invites
proposals for papers and workshops for its 5th National Conference on
Battlefield Preservation. The conference will be held December 2-6, 2000, at
the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel, Baltimore, MD.

Proposals may concern any topic relating to the protection of
battlefield landscapes and their associated sites. The ABPP specifically is
seeking workshops and talks that will provide technical information and/or
innovative ideas that can be utilized by the attendees in protecting
battlefields. Proposals might include issues dealing with the following:
Land protection
Research and survey
Education/interpretation
Planning
Cultural landscapes
Law and policy
Not-for-Profits/friends groups
Fundraising
Grant administration/writing
Archeology
Tribes and sacred grounds
Heritage tourism/economics
Museums/curation -
Technology

Proposal topics should be narrow enough to cover in-depth in the time
allotted. Case studies should demonstrate key ideas in a way that is relevant to
a larger audience.

ABPP national conferences typically draw between 250 and 300 people from across
the country. Attendees represent friends groups and non-profits, the National
Park Service, local and state governments, planners, historians, landscape
planners and architects, cultural resource consultants, educators/interpreters,
students, and interested citizens.

If you or your organization is interested in presenting a workshop or a
paper in Baltimore, please see the attached Call for Papers guidelines
    (Word97). Deadline for proposals--4 pm, May 12, 2000.
