There are numerous sites in Virginia where quartz, as opposed to quartzite, was
used as a raw material.  This spans the entire prehistoric span from Cactus
Hill, where if I remember correctly there is a Clovis point made of quartz,
through Archaic, Woodland, and Contact Period.  I can't remember seeing anything
on whole crystals, but then I am primarily interested in tool manufacturing.
