I know a little.  Gerber was born in 1948 in Washington D.C. and his
teachers included Milton Babbitt.  In addition to the Chandos disc,
there should be a disc coming out on Koch International devoted to his
Violin Concerto, Cello Concerto, and Serenade for String Orchestra.

As for Gerber's style, until the 1980's it was highly dissonant and
austere.  Recently, his music has become more tonal.  Personally, I have
not heard any of it.  His public profile appears to be greatest in Russia.
His Viola Concerto was written for Yuri Bashmet, and he has written works
for the Bekova Sisters Trio.
