I've been trying to solve this problem myself. As someone who doesn't run
Windows much, I started looking for a portable package. I came up empty.
So, I started working a web based system. The result was CDCatalog. I
actually solved two needs, despite the rather lame name. It catalogs my
cds and allows me to explore dynamic web site technologies.

You can visit it at:

I'll probably leave my machine on for a day or so. Let me know what you
think.

The information is highly cross-referenced. For example, you can browse
all the works by a composer, with a particular soloist, or all pieces with
a particular role, like Violin or Soprano.

I am half invisioning a site where people can log on and manage their
collection. They could add cd's from a global database to their own
collection. This would alleviate everyone from having to enter the
information themselves. Also, there could be reviews or other information.

If there are any other developers out there who would like to help
contribute or use it themselves, let me know. FYI, the system runs
on Apache web server, postgres database, and Cocoon for all the page
generation. Cocoon is an excellent XML publishing framework,
