The June issue of International Record Review (our fourth) has an official
street date of 31st May and will arrive with all subscribers over the next
ten days. In the United States branches of Tower, HMV, Olsson's and Virgin
should have copies on sale by mid-month.
The cover features the young Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, whose 75th birthday
tribute box from DG is discussed at length by John T. Hughes.
The BMG Classics saga receives a thoughtful appraisal from the news team,
whilst Scriabin's piano music on record is surveyed by Charles Hopkins in
an extensive feature review entitled "Cocaine and rainbows".
By way of contrast, also receiving extended feature reviews are Minkowski's
Rameau: Dardanus (Archiv - by Stephen Pruslin) and the music of Harry
Partch (Innova - by Roger Thomas)
As usual IRR is jam-packed with reviews, around 200 in all.
best regards
Simon Foster
