Hi Nancy,
A medal similar to yours has been catalogued. See Hill, G.F. and Pollard,
G. Renaissance Medals from the Samuel H. Kress Collection at the National
Gallery of Art, Phaidon Press, 1967. For the Don Inigo d'Avalos medal with
hat, profile bust of man facing right, see Antonio di Puccio Pisano
(b.ca.1395, d. 1455), called Pisanello: page 10, figure No. 22. Don Inigo
D'AVALOS was in the service of Alfonso, King of Naples, as Grand Chamberlain
from 1442. The reverse is supposedly a depiction of the shild of Archilles
with a three turreted castle above it. Originally, it was not pierced for
suspension. I hope this helps.
