I forgot to mention in my previous message that the medallion is pierced
for suspension, but probably not made that way originally since the hole
goes through the shield off-center and has distorted the edge slightly. So
we can add this to the motley collection of pierced coins, tokens, discs,
etc. that seem to crop up regularly.
