Dear Andrea, I go by the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" rule. Are all
baby's feeds at breast? If not, it may be hard to judge adequate weight
gain. If all feeds are at breast and weight gain is good and mom not sore,
then it isn't a problem, is it?
Years ago I had a mom in my LLL group who came to meetings thru 3 babies.
With her last, we were discussing tongue tie one night at a meeting and she
was amazed to hear it could cause problems. She made her oldest, about 5
at the time come over and show me his tongue. It was thoroughly tied! She
said she was never sore a minute and he grew beautifully - go figure.
Sometimes these kids get them clipped later for speech problems (he had
None!) or dental hygiene. He's in college now and it's still tied :-)
As we start year 2000 just remember that Every little thing we learn
doesn't apply to Everyone. There are Exceptions to most Everything. Happy
New Year. Eureka!! The computer works! Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
