When I worked for the York Archaeological Trust back in the 70s, one of the
things to do was go on "The Sewer Tour".  This was a crawl through a section of
the Roman masonry sewer 20-30 feet under the streets of York, England.  The
Romans knew how to build, it looked almost new after almost 2000 years.  I have
some wonderful pictures.
