It is quite likely that the wine bottles you refer to at the military post
eminate primarily from the officers of the post (and possibly civilians). At
least on the frontier out here in Utah the troops would not have had access
to any quantity of bottled beverage such as that, but would have been
provided with a lower quality, high volume alcoholic beverage transported in
barrels. If such is the case there it could provide an opportunity to do
some interesting comparisons.
