Janos is of course referring to Placido Domingo, but I am sorry, I cannot
agree. To sing a chunk or two of Tristan on a studio recording is one
thing, and I am sure that the cd is wonderful, as Janos has pretty darned
good taste in singers and singing. But I don't think that Domingo has the
heft and size to sustain Tristan for a whole evening in the opera house
sans studio tricks. I can't deny that he is a great singer, even at 60,
but I just don't see him as either Siegfried or Tristan.
