Gilels on DG is a towering performance IMO.  Quite at the other end of
the spectrum is the great and more introverted Solomon, also indispensable.
I wouldn't vote for Pollini here which I find a bit too *elegant* but
that's just me.  Gieseking recorded a complete Beehoven cycle but he is
indeed an odd choice for this music.  There is of course always Schnabel
(the transfers on Pearl seem best), probably the best of all if I had to
choose one (and I'm very happy I don't).
